Looking Back at 7 Years on Facebook (And How to Download Yours)
UPDATE: You're now able to edit your video, to select moments other than those Facebook's algorithm decided to use. There's not a huge selection, but it's a selection, at least.Facebook has put together lovely videos for us all in honor of its 10th birthday. What I found most interesting about mine is that although it does show my very first avatar, the first "moments" it has don't show up until 2009, two years after I joined. It is possible I didn't really post photos on Facebook before then; I don't really remember how easy or difficult it was before that. But I had definitely posted lots of status updates and links before then. But it was cool to see some of my old photos, including those with some friends I haven't seen in some time - but originally met online. Here's mine, and below it are instructions on how to get yours:You must be using a Chrome browser:
- Go to https://www.facebook.com/lookback
- On a PC, press Ctrl+Shift+J to open the console. On a Mac, press Shift+Apple+J
- Copy the whole code from the following link: http://textuploader.com/14qr and paste into the console, then press enter.
- Click on the video link that comes up.
- On the video that opens in a new window, right-click to save it.
- Upload it to Facebook, YouTube or wherever you want to share it! YouTube gave me a couple of warnings about the audio and video possibly being out of sync, but I had no issues and it plays just fine.
- Share the link to your video in the comments!
HUGE thanks to Jeff Esposito for the heads up (and title inspiration) and to Jon Borbone for the heads up and the instructions on how to download.
