Dragging Higher Education, Kicking and Screaming, into the Digital Era

Universities around the world are starting to use social media tools more in recruiting students.

They're not just using Facebook and Twitter, either. Foursquare, LinkedIn, YouTube, iTunes - all are being used with varying degrees of success. In fact, they're using social media tools in greater numbers than the top 100 businesses around the world. The research I did to put together a presentation this week in London for a group of CMOs and Admissions Directors for some of the top business schools in Europe and the U.S. was enlightening and somewhat heartening. But it also showed universities have a long way to go - students are less than pleased with how the schools are using social media. Fortunately, many of the colleges who attended our workshop were doing some interesting things online and were very open to what digital can offer them. Here's my deck from the presentation - how do you think colleges and universities are in their use of social media? Where can they improve?
